NZJNET: Email list for teachers of Japanese

In 2001, an e-mail list for teachers of Japanese was set up. This has proved very popular with a great deal of information and resource sharing taking place. The hot topic for a while was NCEA, with questions and suggestions flowing thick and fast. At one stage a member initiated an informal survey of hours allocated to teaching Japanese at schools of NZJNET members and revealed a huge variation which she was then able to present to her principal. It is also being used to advertise positions (long term, short term and relieving) and other opportunities for teachers of Japanese. It is used by the Sasakawa Programme Co-ordinator, and others, as the primary medium for advertising new opportunities, scholarships, grants and more for teachers and students.
